all the ads for mother’s day
take her here
buy her that
she who only wanted your presence
no presents required
gasping for a slight breeze
she gave her breath for you
you took it all for granted
turned your back
it makes me sad
these ads
you cannot give her anything now
only paltry words
which should have been spoken years ago
but so it is
the ads be damned
“i love you, mom —
i always did“
you hope she hears it now
too late?
perhaps
perhaps not
she always knew what wasn’t said
she was, after all
part of your soul

I hope some day there’s an anthology of poetry about mothers that includes this and “Mi Abuelita” by PJ…

Maybe we can make that happen…

I’ve been visiting Garry blog for over a year and never though of clicking on the link to anyone else’ blog! So now I’ve done it and I’m very glad too. I know that’s the secret of gold diggers, but I’d forgotten it : see where there is a gold mine, and then dig as close to there as you can. And you may find gold.
And I did.
Mum doesn’t like mother’s day; she finds it crassly commercial. My mother in law enjoy’s it tremendously, she feels she deserves much more than a single birthday. And they are both right, aren’t they?
